Grade 7 - English

In Grade 7, students learn to analyze the interaction between two or more ideas (individuals, topics) within a text. They will also learn how to establish the connotative, denotative, figurative, and literal meaning of a specific word through contextual clues.

What you'll learn

Unit 1 - Literature: Critically analyze a passage of a text, watch the progression of a theme throughout a passage, analyze the interaction between various elements in a story, notice any sound and syllable patterns and their overall impact, as well as analyzing contradicting perspectives within a text.

Unit 2 - Informational Text: Determine multiple central ideas, provide summaries of a text, analyze interactions between events and facts, understand the purpose of an author’s tone, and evaluate how an author distinguishes their perspective from other commonly known opinions.

Unit 3 - Writing: Write and form clear arguments supported with sound evidence, write informative and explanatory essays, and use cause and effect when working on analytical writing.

Unit 4 - Speech and Language: Discuss using previously prepared research, run group talks with a specific goal in mind, pose questions to build off of others’ arguments, and present modified views of previously mentioned opinions.
