Physics

Prepaze Academy’s Physics curriculum introduces students to the basic principles of the world and our surroundings. This course includes the study of mechanics, heat, light, sound, electricity, and magnetism.

What you'll learn

Unit 1 - Learn to work with significant figures, scientific notation, the metric system, and conversions.

Unit 2 - Learn about displacement and position, velocity and acceleration calculations and graphs, and motion graphs and word problems.

Unit 3 - Learn about graphing and adding vectors, representing vectors in component form, and breaking down 2 dimensional and projectile motion.

Unit 4 - Learn about the characteristics and properties of Newton’s laws of motion, kinetic and static friction, 2-d forces, force, acceleration, and gravity.

Unit 5 - Learn about uniform circular motion, centripetal forces, periods and acceleration, centripetal forces, as well as orbits.

Unit 6 - Learn about the differences between positive and negative work, kinetic and potential energy, and solve energy problems with and without work.

Unit 7 - Learn about momentum, impulse, the conservation of momentum, as well as elastic and inelastic collisions.

Unit 8 - Learn about fluids, pressure in fluids, depth, buoyant forces, and rates of flow in fluids.

Unit 9 - Learn about thermodynamics with a specific focus on thermal energy, heat, temperature, calorimetry, phase changes, the behavior of gases, and the first law of thermodynamics.

Unit 10 - Learn about various forms of waves, characteristics and properties of waves, interference, standing waves, and Hooke’s laws.

Unit 11 - Learn about sound waves, the properties of sound, the speed of sounds, and the process in which instruments create sound.

Unit 12 - Learn about light waves, how they form color, the electromagnetic spectrum, as well as reflection and refraction.

Unit 13 - Learn about lenses and images, real and virtual images, magnification, and ray tracing.

Unit 14 - Learn about electric charges, parallel and series circuits, Coulomb’s law, the electric field, and electric potentials.

Unit 15 - Learn about electric current and circuits, resistance, the application of Ohm’s Law, as well as series and parallel resistors.

Unit 16 - Learn about magnetic forces, magnetic fields, current-based magnetic fields, and magnetic force on charges.
