By this grade, students are expected to read a wide variety of texts fluently. This fourth-grade course will further develop students’ fluency, and we will teach them how to understand unknown words using contextual clues.

Unit 2 - Informational Text: Use key details from a text to describe the main idea, understand phrases appropriate for a grade 4 reading level, and use illustrations to describe viewpoints.

Unit 3 - Foundation Reading Skills: Correctly apply advanced phonetics, syllable patterns, and learn to use contextual clues to determine word definitions.

Unit 4 - Writing: Include a clear topic sentence in your writing, use transition phrases, write with a clear paragraph structure.

Unit 5 - Speaking and Listening: Engage in different forms of group discussions, logically paraphrase information verbally, and identify a speaker’s purpose.
